The Brazen Capital Movement Initiative

Building a California model for women’s economic power.

Activating the Great Wealth Transfer to increase investment in women-led businesses.

The Brazen Capital Movement Initiative, or BCMI, is a California-based effort focused on strengthening the flow of capital, visibility, and strategic opportunity to women-led businesses.

BCMI brings together leaders across entrepreneurship, investment, business, government, philanthropy, media, and economic development to explore how California can become the national model for connecting women’s capital with women’s innovation.

California Has an Opportunity to Lead

One of the largest intergenerational wealth transfers in history is underway.

The question is not whether capital will move.

The question is where it will go.

California is home to one of the world’s most influential economies, a powerful entrepreneurial ecosystem, and extraordinary women building businesses with the potential to create jobs, strengthen communities, and generate long-term economic growth.

Yet women-led businesses remain undercapitalized, underrepresented, and too often disconnected from the networks where investment and opportunity move.

BCMI exists to help change that.

Our goal is to build a California model that intentionally connects more women-led businesses with the capital, visibility, relationships, and strategic infrastructure required to grow.

Women Do Not Have a Talent Problem

We have a signal problem.

Investors, institutions, customers, media, and strategic partners often make decisions based on the people, companies, and opportunities they repeatedly see.

When women founders receive fewer warm introductions, less media attention, less investor exposure, and fewer opportunities to build relationships with decision-makers, those missing signals compound.

Strong companies remain undiscovered.

Qualified founders remain outside influential networks.

Investment continues flowing through the same familiar channels.

Visibility is not vanity. It is economic infrastructure.

Changing the signals changes who gets discovered.

Changing who gets discovered changes who gets funded.

Changing who gets funded changes who builds the future.

The Vision

Imagine a California where:

  • More women become investors as well as entrepreneurs.

  • More private capital reaches women-led innovation.

  • More women founders receive strategic introductions and meaningful visibility.

  • Investors gain stronger access to high-potential companies they may otherwise overlook.

  • Business, government, philanthropy, and community organizations work together instead of operating in silos.

  • Women-led businesses become a more visible and intentional part of California’s economic growth strategy.

  • California becomes the national model for activating women’s economic power.

BCMI is not focused only on increasing funding.

It is focused on strengthening the entire ecosystem that determines who becomes visible, connected, trusted, funded, and positioned to scale.

The BCMI Framework

Capital. Visibility. Coalition.

Capital

Strengthen pathways connecting women-led businesses with investors, funding opportunities, capital-readiness support, and long-term wealth creation.

This includes expanding awareness of women-led investment opportunities and helping more women recognize themselves as potential investors, capital allocators, and economic decision-makers.

Visibility

Increase the signals that help women founders become discoverable to investors, customers, media, institutions, policymakers, and strategic partners.

Visibility should not depend on already belonging to the right network.

Coalition

Build cross-sector partnerships capable of moving information, introductions, opportunity, and capital more intentionally.

BCMI seeks to connect:

  • Women entrepreneurs

  • Angel investors and venture leaders

  • Wealth advisors and financial professionals

  • Business associations

  • Economic development organizations

  • Policymakers

  • Philanthropic institutions

  • Universities and accelerators

  • Media platforms

  • Community organizations

No single organization can solve this alone.

The opportunity is in coordination.

The Proposed California Women’s Capital Activation Pilot

BCMI is advancing the concept of a California Women’s Capital Activation Pilot.

The pilot would explore practical ways to connect more women-led businesses with women investors, wealth holders, ecosystem leaders, and strategic partners.

Unlike a traditional study that ends with recommendations, the pilot would be designed to test real mechanisms for improving capital flow and opportunity.

Potential activities could include:

  • Mapping existing women-led businesses, investors, and capital networks

  • Identifying gaps in visibility, introductions, and investment pathways

  • Convening women founders, investors, wealth advisors, business leaders, and public-sector stakeholders

  • Testing targeted founder-investor connection strategies

  • Expanding capital-readiness and investor-education opportunities

  • Measuring which interventions create stronger signals, relationships, and investment outcomes

  • Producing a model that can be refined, scaled, and replicated

The goal is not another report that confirms the problem.

The goal is to test what moves capital.

Why California?

California has always been a leader in innovation.

BCMI believes California can also lead the country in building stronger systems for women’s economic participation, ownership, investment, and business growth.

Focusing on California gives BCMI a clear proving ground.

It allows the initiative to:

  • Build a focused coalition

  • Work within a defined economic and policy ecosystem

  • Develop measurable pilots

  • Document lessons and results

  • Create a model other states can eventually adapt

The ambition is larger than one state.

The work starts where it can become real.

Current Momentum

BCMI is moving from idea to action.

The Brazen Capital Movement Initiative was developed through the BizFed Advocacy Academy as a policy and economic-development proposal.

In 2026, BCMI won the BizFed Advocacy Academy Capstone Pitch Competition.

The initiative has since generated interest from leaders across business, nonprofit advocacy, women’s entrepreneurship, economic development, and capital access.

Current momentum includes:

  • Recognition from BizFed and LISC leaders

  • Growing interest from women entrepreneurs and advocacy professionals

  • New relationships with organizations working to increase visibility and capital access for women founders

  • Invitations to share the thinking behind BCMI through media and thought-leadership platforms

  • Interest from women who want to contribute, volunteer, connect, and help move the initiative forward

Winning created visibility.

The response afterward created momentum.

This is only the beginning.
